Has anyone built a vmware appliance for the ziptie server? It would help newbies (like me) get started with ziptie.

We've talked about it, but
We've talked about it, but it hasn't been at the top of the list. Now that someone has specifically asked for it we should be able to make time to put one together.
If there is anyone who wants to volunteer to do this that would be great. But if no one else volunteers I can take a look into it next week.

vmware
That would be awesome!
I think that vmware has really helped non-sysadmins like me get access to open source applications. Check out
http://www.jumpbox.com/
http://bitnami.org/stacks
to see how other projects are getting distributed.
Thanks
vmware appliance
If possible, I would strongly encourage you to create an appliance.
I am attempting to install the distribution, but am having difficulty getting past the perl dependencies.
I would like to see if the ziptie product will assist me in managing my cisco network.

Having a VMware appliance
Having a VMware appliance would be great. One requirement of the appliance however is all OS patching is taken care of as part of the ZipTie upgrades. Otherwise it is not really an appliance.
Thank You
should patching the
should patching the operating system ever actually be a function of an application upgrade? also, it seems that a virtual machine image would be more for evaluating the software to see if you like it. if you plan on putting it in production is seems that you'd want to either get an install up an running on the OS of your choice, or put together your own VM specific to the storage space, memory, etc that's available on the machine you're installing on. am i off-base?
cheers,

As with a hardware appliance
As with a hardware appliance I think a software/VM appliance should keep the OS updated & secured as needed. That being side the OS would have very little extras, as it should only contain the needed builds.
